QuestFlow vs ChatGPT vs NovelAI vs SillyTavern (AI TRPG)

Back to home

These tools solve different jobs. ChatGPT is a general chat model; NovelAI focuses on story generation and its lorebook ecosystem; SillyTavern is a local front-end for many backends; QuestFlow is a hosted AI TRPG / AI DM platform with imports, party rooms, and server-authoritative play state. Use the table below when choosing — do not treat them as drop-in replacements.

Steps

  1. Pick ChatGPT when…

You want open-ended chat or brainstorming without a TRPG sheet, party sync, or first-class lorebook/Roll20 importers.

  2. Pick NovelAI when…

Your main goal is NovelAI’s story generation and its native lorebook workflow — not a hosted multiplayer AI DM table.

  3. Pick SillyTavern when…

You want a local front-end you control, connecting to backends you choose, and managing cards/world_info on your machine.

  4. Pick QuestFlow when…

You want a hosted AI TRPG: import lorebooks/cards/Roll20/maps, play with an AI DM, optional synced party rooms, and server-authoritative state plus an independent rule-logic pipeline.

FAQ

Is QuestFlow a ChatGPT wrapper?

No. QuestFlow is an AI TRPG product with its own session/snapshot pipeline, imports, and (on eligible plans) party rooms. Narration uses AI models; checks, HP, and campaign state are not “chat-only.”

Does QuestFlow replace NovelAI or SillyTavern?

No. It can import NovelAI/SillyTavern-oriented lore and cards so you can play on a hosted AI DM table. Creation workflows may still live in those tools.

Can I bring SillyTavern lore into QuestFlow?

Yes — see the import-lorebook and import-sillytavern-card guides. You must own or have rights to the content.
